Luka Modric’s contract with the Real Madrid ends at the end of the season. Still without a renewal agreement, the Croatian player said on Monday that he would like to stay at the Spanish club.
“I haven’t spoken to the club about the renewal. I’m very calm. These questions are a little annoying, because I always say the same thing: I feel good and I want to stay at Real Madrid. I have to talk to the club, but I want to stay because I deserve it, not for favors. I’ve never been given anything and I want to continue on merit, not because of my history or what I’ve done. Nothing will change my relationship with Madrid, it’s the club of my life”, said Modric.
“I’ll do my best to do my best and deserve to stay here. I can’t do more, I’ve always had a very good relationship with the club and that’s not going to change. It’s like last year: there’s no rush, we’re in the middle of season and there are still many challenges ahead. I’m focused on that and returning to my best level. Then we’ll see what happens”, completed the midfielder.
Modric arrived at Real in 2012 – from Tottenham – and, after a start to much criticism, has turned the tables to become a club idol. In his curriculum, there are five Champions League titles, three La Liga titles and a Golden Ball.
O Real Madrid goes to Anfiled to visit Liverpool this Tuesday, at 5 pm (Brasília time), for the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League. The duel is a rerun of the last tournament final.
