The head of the RFU Dyukov said that the option of moving to the Asian confederation is not being considered
President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov assessed the likelihood of a transition to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). He is quoted by RIA Novosti.
“We are not considering such an option, we are members [Союза европейских футбольных ассоциаций] UEFA and we remain them, ”he said. The head of the RFU stressed that the rumors about the exclusion of Russia from the UEFA membership have no basis.
Earlier on May 14, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin commented on the possible transition of the RFU to the Asian Confederation. “I think that if this happens, Russian football will roll back 100 years,” he said. The head of UEFA noted that this idea comes from some politician, and not from the RFU.
On May 2, UEFA decided on the participation of Russian teams in tournaments in the 2022/2023 season. Russian football clubs were suspended from European competitions, and the national team was expelled from the League of Nations. UEFA also rejected Russia’s bid to host the 2028 and 2032 European Football Championships.
