They dictate preventive detention for a bus driver who fell into an abyss in Colta

A multicompetent judge of the Colta canton ordered preventive detention against the bus driver of the Transandina cooperative that crashed in the Juan de Velasco (Pangor) sector, of the Colta canton, in the province of Chimborazo, early Monday morning. Eleven people died in the sinister road and more than ten were injured.

At the hearing to formulate charges, the prosecutor Jorge Tenemaza Ponce reported that the accident occurred when the bus of the Transandina transport cooperative, which covered the Guayaquil-Ambato route, lost track and ended up overturned in an abyss. The driver is prosecuted as allegedly responsible for the crime of wrongful death.

The judge also ordered the retention of the damaged vehicle, the prohibition to dispose of assets for up to $ 10,000 and a similar measure with the shares and rights that the defendant would possess in the cooperative.

Tenemaza presented several elements of conviction such as the corpse removal certificates, the verification of the traffic accident by experts, the technical-mechanical examination report of the transport unit; in addition to reports of identification and external recognition and autopsy of the victims, and the medical-legal reports of the wounded who were referred to various medical homes.

The Prosecutor’s Office said that the Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code stipulates that the crime of wrongful death is punishable by three to five years in prison. (I)
