The decision of the Turkish parliament to approve the protocol on Finland’s accession to NATO has officially entered into force. According to TASS, it was published in the government bulletin Resmî Gazete.

Voting on the approval of Helsinki’s application took place on Thursday during the plenary session of Parliament. All 276 participants of the meeting supported this bill. Finland thus received all the legal grounds for full entry into the alliance.

Finland and Sweden applied for membership in the North Atlantic Alliance in May 2022, but Ankara blocked the accession process, demanding that they declare Kurdish organizations terrorist, as well as extradite persons accused of terrorism or participation in a coup attempt in Turkey in 2016. To resolve these issues before the NATO summit in 2022, a memorandum was signed between Turkey, Finland and Sweden with a list of specific steps that, according to Ankara, the two northern countries should take.
