An aspiring soldier is found dead in a training school in Tungurahua; They investigate whether it is a suicide

Personnel from the Dinased and Criminalistics of Tungurahua went to the Vencedores del Cenepa Army Soldiers Training School early Tuesday morning to begin inquiries regarding an alleged suicide of a first-year student.

According to the police report, the body of the would-be soldier was found along with a weapon. “In the left part of the bathroom of the pentathlon track, a lifeless male body is observed in a dorsal decubitus position, next to the body a rifle-type firearm,” it is indicated.

The document adds that when performing an external visual examination, the body presents a wound with similar characteristics to the passage of a projectile propelled by a firearm at the height of the forehead and back of the head with detachment of the encephalic mass.

From some versions compiled by police personnel, it was learned that at around 01:10 on Tuesday a weapon raking noise was heard and immediately afterwards the echo of a firearm detonation.

After the search, the applicant was found lying on the floor next to the bathroom of the pentathlon track.

The director of the military education establishment, Colonel Kléber Guaytarilla, exposed an official communiqué that had been prepared, without admitting any consultation.

He said that this Tuesday morning the death of the first-year military candidate Steven Alexander Samaniego Criollo (19), belonging to the school, arose, and that the causes of death will be established by investigations and legal proceedings.

He added that the school will continue to support the competent authorities in the procedures that by law derive from the event.

He also indicated that as an educational institute they regret what happened and sympathize with the pain of the relatives, confirming that the fact is under investigation.

The parents of the deceased approached the Community Surveillance Unit (UVC), where they were visibly in pain over the death of their son.

They did not want to give details, but they indicated that the last time they saw him was in December when he went out to his house in Riobamba.

They indicated that when they were with him they did not notice anything strange or evidence of any irregular situation, that he was with the same attitude as always, for which reason it is difficult for them to believe that he committed suicide. (YO)
