Apple is developing a second generation of its ultrathin iPhone Air, according to recent leaks cited by GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu, who expects the device to debut in the first quarter of 2027.
The leaks point to five notable upgrades. The most significant is a dual main camera, adding a 48 megapixel ultra wide lens alongside the standard one, bringing the iPhone Air 2 closer to the camera capabilities of the base iPhone models.
The Dynamic Island cutout is also expected to shrink, reportedly by 30 percent, slightly increasing usable screen area.
New Chips and Bigger Display
Performance will reportedly come from a new A20 Pro chip built on TSMC's 2 nanometer process, said to improve both performance and power efficiency. The device is also expected to include second generation in house chips, a C2 5G modem and an N2 wireless controller supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, for more stable connectivity and better energy efficiency.
The display is expected to grow to 6.55 inches, with a LTPO OLED panel at 1.5K resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate.
The original iPhone Air required tradeoffs, including battery capacity and camera count, to reach its 5.6mm thickness, and ended up only $100 cheaper than the iPhone 17 Pro, which has a triple camera system and better battery life.
