Moscow will see heat up to 33 degrees Celsius before sharp cooling hits, Hydrometeorological Centre of Russia official Lyudmila Parshina said.
Speaking on Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, the laboratory head said strong heat is expected in the capital from Wednesday to Friday, August 5 to 7. The peak will arrive on Friday, when thermometers could reach plus 33 degrees. A cold atmospheric front will then sweep through the Moscow region, dropping temperatures to between 20 and 25 degrees.
Capital summer heat and record temperatures
Parshina described the summer heat in Moscow as average overall. Temperatures reached 30 degrees only twice across June and July in the capital, even though July was the hottest on record across Russia. She noted this difference illustrates how weather differs from climate.
The Hydrometeorological Centre earlier stated that July was the hottest month in Russia since regular weather observations began in 1891. The previous record was set in 2010 during a period of abnormal heat and wildfires, and matched in 2024.
