The analysis of European travel habits shows marked budget differences based on a visitor's country of origin. Citizens of Luxembourg top the list with an average daily budget of 191 euros, while travelers from Greece sit at the opposite extreme, spending 49 euros per day.

Spanish domestic tourists fall into a middle position slightly below the European Union average. National tourists in Spain record an average spend of 84 euros per overnight stay.

Spending by travel purpose

The reason for travel substantially conditions overall expenditure. Stays for vacations, leisure, and recreation generate the highest average total spend per person across an entire trip at 660 euros. Professional and business trips follow closely with an average total spend of 631 euros per person.

When calculated per overnight stay, the corporate segment leads all categories with a budget of 203 euros per night, compared to 112 euros allocated for leisure. Radical Storage noted that business trips correspond to significantly shorter stays that carry higher daily spending.

Geographic distribution of travel spend

Alessandro Seina, chief executive officer of Radical Storage, highlighted that domestic tourism accounts for the largest share of overall financial volume in Europe. Travelers making 850 million trips within their home countries generate a combined spend of 257 billion euros.

Intra-community travel to other European Union member states represents the second most relevant category. Cross-border journeys within the EU account for 249 million trips and an economic impact of 212 billion euros.

Additional reporting noted that Spanish tourists will spend 3.6 percent more during summer vacations in 2026. Rising prices have led one in six Spaniards to request a loan to finance their travel.
