There’s a reason you’ve never seen Daddy Yankee dance.

If you are a fan of reggaeton and especially of daddy yankee, you may have noticed that the Puerto Rican singer does not dance in his videos or in his presentations. And it is not because his songs are not danceable, but because of an incident that happened to “El Jefe” of reggaeton when he was young.

Daddy Yankee, who just turned 46, suffered a gunshot wound to his leg when he was just 17 years old. The musician, whose real name is Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, was in his hometown of Puerto Rico when he was shot.

Since the accident, the interpreter of “Gasolina” has a metal prosthesis in his leg that does not allow him to have full mobility. Still, his commitment to music has kept him offering concerts and shows for his fans.

The artist once recounted that music was his refuge after the shooting incident. Before dedicating himself to writing hit songs, Daddy Yankee was passionate about baseball and hoped to become a professional player.

Although his leg did not allow him to follow that dream, the musician constantly jokes about his prosthesis, saying that sometimes, his leg sets off the metal detector alarm at airports. (I)
