Spanish model and author Agueda Lopez has revealed that severe childhood bullying in her hometown of Hornachuelos helped prepare her for public life.
Lopez, who grew up in the rural municipality in the province of Cordoba, explained that facing intense harassment as a young girl built the emotional strength required to navigate fame after moving to the United States and marrying global music star Luis Fonsi.

Before building a prominent modeling career in Miami, Lopez represented regional pageants as Miss Talavera and Miss Toledo, and later competed in Miss Espana, Spain's premier national beauty contest. However, she found professional opportunities limited in Madrid, where she would attend thousands of auditions with very little success due to only one casting taking place per week.
Seeking greater prospects, Lopez relocated to Florida, where she secured covers for major fashion magazines and participated in four to five auditions a day. She highlighted Miami Swim Week, the international swimwear fashion event held every summer, as a major turning point that attracted models from Germany, Spain, New York, and across the globe. She noted that modeling was a far more established and respected profession in the US than in Spain at the time.
Early life and overcoming bullying
Lopez was born into a humble family of agricultural field workers in Hornachuelos, a small town nestled in the Cordoba mountain range. Although the local community was content with rural life, she felt out of place and was determined to pursue a modeling career despite demographic odds being stacked against her.
During her childhood, Lopez suffered severe bullying that escalated into physical distress. Lacking the emotional maturity to cope with the situation, she turned to her faith for help. Two days later, her father received a new job offer, allowing the family to relocate to another city and start over.
Lopez explained that those early hardships served as a critical lesson when she later faced persistent cyberbullying after becoming a public figure. She stated that she refuses to adopt a victim mindset because feeling like a victim causes the universe to treat a person as one, adding that she prefers to focus on winning and positive energy.
Last year, Lopez published her debut novel, La niña que siempre miraba al sol, through the publishing imprint Suma de Letras. The book features the central motto that faith in oneself creates magic when all hope appears lost, mirroring her own journey of personal triumph.
Family life with Luis Fonsi
Lopez shares two children with her husband, Puerto Rican singer and songwriter Luis Fonsi, who achieved international acclaim with hit singles such as Despacito. Despite Fonsi's global stardom, Lopez described him as the most normal and down to earth person she has known, explaining that their family leads a routine, unpretentious lifestyle.
When visiting Madrid, the couple walk everywhere, dine in regular restaurants, and avoid hiding in private reserved areas. Lopez added that Fonsi never refuses fan requests for photographs or reacts poorly when approached in public.
Latin culture and public events
Reflecting on her life in the US, Lopez said she felt warmly welcomed in Miami, describing it as the most Latin city in the country. She noted that the city's large immigrant population creates strong empathy for newcomers working to build a better life, contrasting it with Madrid, a city she adores where everyone feels local.
Lopez recalled attending the soccer World Cup final in New York with Fonsi, saying it was moving to hear Spanish spoken throughout the city. She noted that major cultural events like soccer bring people together across political differences and immigration debates, adding that she proudly supported Spain during the tournament.
She also recalled watching Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny perform at the Super Bowl halftime show alongside her husband. She shared that Fonsi cried during the performance, which she described as a brave and inspiring celebration of Latin culture and one of the finest halftime shows she had ever seen.
Closing on her personal outlook, Lopez explained that she maintains a fire in her heart, blood, and soul. She stated that this inner energy fuels her ongoing dreams, imagination, and ambition to keep moving forward.
