Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in Serbia with his team for official talks with President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Djuro Macut, the Ukrainian leader announced on Telegram.
Zelenskyy said negotiations planned for today and tomorrow will cover expanding economic ties, relations with the European Union, security issues, and other topics to benefit both nations. He added that Ukraine is always determined to work constructively, mutually beneficially, and on the basis of mutual respect.
The trip marks Zelenskyy's first visit to Serbia since he took office in 2019 and since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. According to information from the Office of the President of Serbia, the leaders will discuss cooperation across various fields and their countries' progress toward EU membership.
Trade Memorandum and Sanctions
President Vucic emphasized that Serbia has no intention of changing its stance on sanctions against Russia, despite intensifying contacts with Kyiv. Diplomatic sources in the Serbian capital, cited by media, expect the two nations to sign a joint memorandum of understanding on trade cooperation in the near future.
Vucic previously visited Ukraine in July alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other European leaders. That delegation in Kyiv also included Montenegro President Jakov Milatovic, Slovenia Prime Minister Janez Jansa, Moldova President Maia Sandu, and Romania President Nicusor Dan.
