Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, the 18-year-old daughter of actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has published a newspaper advertisement to drop Pitt from her legal surname.
As part of the official application process required under California state law, Vivienne published a notice once a week for four consecutive weeks. The advertisement ran in The Los Angeles Daily Journal from July 24 to August 14, 2026, announcing that she is dropping her father's last name.

The teenager had filed the initial petition to change her legal name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie at the Superior Court of Los Angeles County on July 21. Court records show that she cited personal reasons for requesting the change.
The application has not yet been approved. A court hearing has been set for November 2 to examine Vivienne's petition further. Legal documents regarding the proof of publication state that anyone opposing the name change must file a written objection detailing their reasons at least two court working days before the scheduled hearing.
Brothers and Sisters File Similar Petitions
The public notice is the most recent move by Vivienne to distance herself from the Pitt surname. It comes roughly a month after her siblings, 21-year-old Zahara and 25-year-old Maddox, submitted corresponding applications to remove Pitt from their last names and published similar notices in The Los Angeles Daily Journal as required by California law.
Court hearings for Maddox and Zahara have been scheduled for September 14 and September 28 respectively. Additionally, their brother Knox dropped the surname on his high school diploma, where he was listed as Knox Jolie on June 13, 2026.
Vivienne previously used the shortened name in public. In May 2024, her name was listed as Vivienne Jolie in the playbill for the Broadway musical production of The Outsiders, which she helped produce alongside her mother.
