The death toll from two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has reached 6,301, Jorge Rodríguez, president of the country's National Assembly, said in an update released Monday, August 10, 2026.

The magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 quakes hit within seconds of each other. The new figure matches the previous official toll, which Rodríguez had given a week earlier, on Monday, August 3.

Rodríguez posted the update from his account on X, formerly known as Twitter, on August 10.

Injuries and rubble removal

More than 73,000 injured people have received medical care in hospitals, according to figures released by Rodríguez. He said 23% of the rubble in the affected areas has been cleared so far.

Housing pledge for survivors

Venezuela's interim president, Delsy Rodríguez, has promised that 4,000 new homes will be handed over to earthquake survivors before the end of the year, with a further 10,000 homes to follow in 2027.
