Varus Warehouse Destroyed in Russian Strike on Boryspil

Ukrainian supermarket chain Varus warned of product shortages after an overnight Russian missile strike destroyed its logistics warehouse in Boryspil.

Varus Warehouse Destroyed in Russian Strike on Boryspil

A Russian missile strike overnight into August 20 destroyed a warehouse storing inventory for Ukrainian supermarket chain Varus in Boryspil, Kyiv Oblast.

The company press service announced the destruction of the facility, which belonged to a logistics partner of the supermarket network, and warned that temporary partial disruptions in product availability may occur across individual stores while damage is being evaluated.

Varus reported that its team is working alongside representatives from the partner logistics firm to assess the consequences of the strike and clarify all circumstances of the attack. The retailer assured customers that it is doing everything possible to ensure uninterrupted supply and to keep goods stocked on store shelves.

The company added that Varus continues to operate as normal, with all of its supermarkets remaining open and ready to welcome shoppers.

Retail network operations and supply strategy

Varus is a major national supermarket chain operating in Ukraine's grocery retail sector under the corporate management of Omega. The company opened its first store in 2003 in Dnipro, a major commercial city in central-eastern Ukraine, and currently operates 117 supermarkets nationwide.

Facilities holding products for the Varus network were previously hit twice by Russian strikes in May 2026. Following those attacks, the retailer began decentralizing its supply chain by distributing product inventory across multiple locations and moving specific product categories to direct store delivery from suppliers.

Widespread damage to commercial logistics hubs

The attack on the Boryspil site occurred during a wider overnight Russian bombardment on August 20 that also struck a warehouse belonging to the Fora supermarket chain in Martusivka, a village near Kyiv. Fora had only begun using that distribution center the previous week.

The overnight strikes damaged several other commercial logistics locations in Ukraine, including storage facilities operated by the EKO Market grocery chain and agricultural firm Danube Agrarian.

In addition, Russian strikes destroyed a warehouse belonging to ice cream producer Faini Lody, which supplies Kyiv and 12 other cities. French cosmetics retailer Yves Rocher was also forced to suspend online orders in Ukraine after a Russian attack damaged its local logistics facility.
