Greek singer Vanessa Adamopoulou said she does not see herself as part of the celebrity scene widely known in Greece as "showbiz," even though she is comfortable with the publicity that comes with her career as a performer.
Adamopoulou made the comments during an interview with the television programme "Kalimera Eipame?" ("Good Morning, Did We Say?"), broadcast on the morning of Sunday, September 13, 2026. She was asked to describe how she views her relationship with publicity and with the wider entertainment industry.
She said she could handle the spotlight of publicity because that is her job, but that showbiz itself has nothing to do with her work and that she does not belong there.
Career beginnings
The singer recalled that her career began in 2006 with the song "Pano stin Trela mou" ("In My Madness"), released as the soundtrack to the Greek film "Loufa kai Parallagi: Sirines sto Egaio." She said she started out with a pop track.
Despite that pop debut, Adamopoulou said that after twenty years in the music industry, an artist should not remain confined to a single label. She said both the person and the artist change over the course of a career, and that this progression is not something fixed or static.
On being labelled by the public
Adamopoulou noted that twenty years had passed since her debut. She said she understood why audiences tend to attach a label to performers, since it lets people place artists in a particular category in their minds and know what to expect from them.
Even so, she said a person and an artist represent a journey and a path, someone constantly evolving rather than standing still, and that this is true of the person as much as the performer.
Adamopoulou has built a long career in Greek popular music since her 2006 debut, moving across different styles over the two decades that followed.
