Redmi has officially introduced its new Redmi 17C 5G budget smartphone in Singapore, bringing fifth-generation mobile connectivity to its entry-level line for 279 Singapore dollars, or roughly $220.
The handset is powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 6300 processor, an octa-core mobile chip designed to enable 5G networking on lower-cost devices. The phone includes 4 GB of RAM and is offered with either 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage, which users can expand using a microSD card.
For display hardware, the device carries a 6.9-inch IPS LCD panel with HD+ resolution, offering a 120 Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and a maximum brightness of 810 nits. Photography is handled by a 50 MP main camera on the rear casing and an 8 MP front sensor for video calls and selfies.
Battery capacity and build details
Energy is supplied by a 6,000 mAh battery with support for 33 W wired charging. The handset operates on HyperOS 3, Xiaomi's custom user interface layer based on Android 16 software.
The body carries an IP64 ingress protection rating, meaning it is certified as dust-tight and resistant to splashing water. Redmi has also kept the traditional 3.5 mm headphone jack, allowing users to connect wired audio accessories without adapters.
Redmi is offering the phone in three color options: black, purple, and brown. The brown variant features a textured back panel wrapped in artificial leather rather than standard plastic.
Broader Redmi product developments
Redmi operates as the budget-oriented brand of Beijing-based electronics manufacturer Xiaomi. The release of the 17C 5G comes shortly after Xiaomi launched its flagship Redmi K100 Pro and Pro Max smartphones, which feature battery capacities up to 9,070 mAh and 200 MP camera systems.
The announcement also comes as Xiaomi recently ended official software support for several of its popular older smartphones and tablets.
