An 18-year-old man is receiving treatment in hospital for serious gunshot wounds after being ambushed while driving in Sydney's southwest on Thursday night. Police officers were called to Mimosa Street in Greenacre shortly before 9pm after local residents reported hearing two gunshots.
Investigating officers understand the teenager was shot twice in the chest on nearby Banksia Street. He was subsequently driven to Mimosa Street, where emergency services located him and transported him to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
Detectives seized a Skoda SUV used to transport the injured teenager to Mimosa Street for forensic examination. Police also interviewed the driver of the vehicle and established crime scenes at both Banksia Street and Mimosa Street.
Crime family association
The victim is reportedly known to associate with members of the Alameddine crime family. However, a police source told the Daily Telegraph it is not yet known whether that association was the motive for the shooting or whether it was 'a totally unrelated dispute'.
Burnt-out ute in Granville
Emergency services were called to Celia Street in Granville shortly after 3am on Friday following reports of a vehicle fire, just hours after the Greenacre shooting. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which extensively damaged a Toyota Hilux after it was engulfed in flames.
Police established a third crime scene at the Granville location and are treating the burnt-out ute as being linked to the earlier shooting. Officers urge anyone with information, including dashcam or CCTV footage, to contact Crime Stoppers.
