A worker has died and another escaped after soil collapsed on them during sewage pipe installation in Sipavskoye, Sverdlovsk Oblast, on September 1.
The two utility workers were trapped beneath falling earth while digging trenches for new sewage networks in the village. One of the men managed to extract himself from the debris without assistance, but rescue efforts were unable to save his colleague.
The incident was confirmed by the press service of the Sverdlovsk Oblast Prosecutor's Office in a statement published on the Max messaging service. Regional prosecutors reported that the repair work was being conducted by a private contractor when the surrounding ground suddenly caved in on the site.
Prosecution authorities have opened a formal inspection into the fatal accident. Officials stated that a thorough legal review is currently under way to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the ground collapse and to verify whether safety compliance regulations were met during the excavation work.

The two men in Zhukovsky were attempting to install waterproofing around a private garage independently when the trench walls gave way. One of the workers died at the scene despite emergency intervention.
Another major construction accident occurred in central Moscow on Bolshaya Sadovaya Street, where two workers were injured after a lift mechanism collapsed during repairs on a building facade.
A 27-year-old female worker sustained severe injuries in the fall, including a broken neck, fractures to both forearms, and a closed craniocerebral trauma, and was rushed to hospital for emergency medical treatment. A 35-year-old male worker who was on the hoist platform alongside her died from his injuries.
Authorities in Sverdlovsk Oblast confirmed that the legal review into the Sipavskoye tragedy remains ongoing as prosecutors continue to establish the full facts of the collapse.
