Brazilian coach Thiago Motta leaves Bologna and could take over at Juventus

This Thursday, Bologna announced the departure of coach Thiago Motta, who preferred not to renew his contract, which ends in June. According to the European press, the expectation is that the Brazilian, naturalized Italian, will be signed by Juventus.

“Thiago Motta communicated his intention not to renew his contract. Taking note of the decision, the club thanks the coach for his extraordinary work and wishes him good luck for the rest of his career”, says Bologna in an official statement.

The coach had a great season and qualified the club for the Champions League for the first time in 59 years. In 2023/2024, Motta led the team in 41 games, won 21, drew 14 and lost six.

“In the last two years I have met a well-prepared and winning coach,” said club president Joey Saputo. “He introduced a brilliant style of play this season. Reaching the Champions League means that he and all these players will go down in our club’s history. I wish he had stayed in Bologna, but I can only thank him and his team for these two incredible seasons and I wish him the best for the future”, he concluded.

Thiago Motta’s farewell should be this Friday, at 3:45 pm (Brasília time), when Bologna faces Genoa, at the Luigi Ferraris stadium, in the last round of the Italian Championship.

According to the Italian press, the Brazilian should sign with Juventus for three years. The coach would arrive to replace Massimiliano Allegri, who was fired from his position last week.
