RUSADA named a reasonable punishment for Valieva

The head of RUSADA Loginova called it reasonable to issue a warning to Valieva

Director General of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) Veronika Loginova spoke about the punishment facing figure skater Kamila Valieva. She is quoted by Sport Express.

“As at the stage of presenting the case to the disciplinary committee, RUSADA believes that the athlete is guilty of violating the rules, but it is minimal,” said Loginova, calling a warning a reasonable sanction for the skater.

Hearings in Valieva’s case are taking place at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) from September 26 to 29. During the event, four parties will be heard: the skater herself, the World Anti-Doping Agency, RUSADA and the International Skating Union.

At the 2022 Olympic Games, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to the doping scandal involving her. Traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in the skater’s sample from December 2021. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
