With a Brazilian goal, Roma win and enter the Champions classification zone

Roma beat Empoli 2-0, in a match valid for the 21st round of the Italian Championship. The goals of the match that took place at the Olympic Stadium in Rome were scored by the Brazilian Roger Ibañez and by Tammy Abraham.

With the result, the owners of the house assumed the 3rd place of the Italian, with the same 40 points of Inter Milan, vice-leader of the competition and entered the qualification zone for the Champions League. Empoli, who had not lost for seven rounds, remained in 10th place, with 26 points.

The two teams return to the field on Saturday, for the Italian Serie A. At 11 am (Brasília time), Empoli faces Spezia, at Estadio Carlo Castellani. Later, at 2 pm, Roma face Lecce at the Estadio Comunale Via del Mare.

The game

Just two minutes into the first half, from a corner kick by Dybala, Brazilian defender Roger Ibañez, formerly of Fluminense, headed in to open the scoring for Roma.

At six, in another corner kick by Dybala, striker Tammy Abraham, with a header, widened for José Mourinho’s men.

At the end of the first half, Empoli began to show a reaction. At 43 minutes, in a cross, Tyronne Ebuehi almost reduced for the visitors. Soon after, Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro finished from outside the area, but the ball went out of bounds.

In the first minute of the second half, once again the corner kick brought danger to Empoli. After Dybala’s volley, goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario rebounded and had to make two more great saves to avoid Roma’s third.

After that, the game became more rhythmic, with exchanges of passes in the midfield, without great chances for both sides.
