The English had to disburse 121 million euros (R$ 669 million) to have the Argentine this season. The value made the player become the most expensive midfielder in the history of football, surpassing the transfer of Paul Pogba from Juventus for the Manchester United for 105 million euros.
The purchase of Enzo Fernández was the highest value made by Chelsea. Before him, the most Londoners had paid for an athlete was 115 million euros, for striker Romelu Lukaku.
Enzo arrived at River Plate aged just five and graduated from the club’s youth ranks. In mid-2022, he transferred to Benfica and, in Portugal, accumulated 29 games, four goals and seven assists.
The Argentine stood out mainly during his selection’s victorious campaign in the Qatar World Cup. At the end of the tournament, he was named the best young player in the World Cup.
