Singer Selena Gomez has described an investor lawsuit alleging fraud at her mental health startup Wondermind as completely baseless.
The response from her legal team follows a civil suit filed on Thursday, August 13, in a United States federal court against Gomez and her mother, Mandy Teefey.
Investors behind the lawsuit claim Gomez and Teefey raised approximately $1.2 million by presenting a false picture of the company's operational progress and governance structure.
Attorney Matthew S. Rosengart rejected the allegations against the singer. He said claims that Gomez engaged in any alleged fraud or illegal act were completely baseless, adding that her legal team would vigorously defend against the false allegations and move immediately to dismiss the claims against her.
Allegations of breached agreements and missing partnerships
According to the lawsuit, Gomez had signed an agreement to participate actively in the company's growth as its head of marketing. Investors claim she subsequently breached that agreement.
The lawsuit also highlights alleged corporate partnerships between Wondermind and financial firms Fidelity and J.P. Morgan, which were intended to offer mental health services to employees. Investors claim those partnerships did not exist.
Furthermore, the legal filing states that planned celebrity promotional profiles and prospective advertising deals presented as future business goals were never implemented.
Company breakdown and media reports
The plaintiffs claim Wondermind collapsed quietly around them, alleging that none of the company's founders, executives, or directors gave investors any notice of trouble.
Investors state they first learned of the complete financial and operational collapse at Wondermind through a 2025 investigative report published by digital magazine The Cut.
That 2025 report detailed how Gomez was seeking to distance herself from the startup and described the widely discussed removal of chief executive officer Daniella Pierson. Entertainment outlet Variety also reported on August 15, 2026, that Gomez and her legal team issued a statement following the lawsuit targeting the Only Murders in the Building star.
Responses from co-founders and executives
Teefey, who co-founded Wondermind with Gomez and served in executive leadership, has not commented on the lawsuit.
Former chief executive Daniella Pierson denied the accusations raised against her in the filing. Pierson stated she is prepared to present evidence that she claims will show what actually happened inside the business.
Wondermind was launched as a mental health platform designed to provide accessible wellness resources, content, and corporate mental health solutions.
