Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan are preparing to sign a mutual defense agreement on Friday in Jeddah, according to Saudi military and government sources who spoke to Agence France-Presse.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are scheduled to meet in the Saudi city on Friday. The meeting was announced earlier by the royal court in Riyadh, the Turkish presidency and the Pakistani foreign ministry.
Regional Security Talks
A Saudi military source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Agence France-Presse that the mutual defense pact had been under discussion for a long time. The source added that recent regional developments and the ongoing war in the Middle East accelerated the negotiations leading to the meeting in Jeddah.
