Samsung has presented the new 200-megapixel ISOCELL HPC sensor for flagship smartphones, introducing its DeepPix architecture to improve high dynamic range, digital zoom, night photography, and video quality.

The ISOCELL HPC has a 1/1.3-inch optical format with a pixel size of 0.6 micrometers. Its maximum image resolution is 16,384 by 12,288 pixels.

The DeepPix architecture includes Front Deep Trench Isolation technology, which increases the charge capacity of each pixel. The sensor's Full Well Capacity rose by 60 percent compared to the previous generation, helping to preserve details in bright and dark areas while reducing noise.

Samsung said the performance boost is especially noticeable when shooting against the sun, bright skies, and night streetlights. The company also implemented single-frame 16-bit HDR in the sensor, capturing an expanded dynamic range in a single shot without combining multiple exposures. According to Samsung, this mode delivers four times the color information of traditional HDR methods.

Zoom, autofocus, and video capabilities

Single-frame HDR also functions during cropping, with on-sensor processing supporting 1x, 1.5x, 2x, 3x, and 4x zoom modes to preserve detail. Additional features include Tetra2pixel pixel binning, Super QPD phase autofocus, Smart-ISO Pro HDR, and RAW output with color depths of 10, 12, 14, and 16 bits.

For video recording, the ISOCELL HPC supports 8K at 30 frames per second and 4K up to 180 frames per second. Full HD super slow-motion recording is available up to 360 frames per second, though autofocus is disabled in that mode.

Samsung has not disclosed which smartphone will feature the sensor first. The debut could occur in September in a Chinese flagship, with potential candidates including the Oppo Find X10 and Vivo X500, while the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra may also receive the sensor.
