Russian grain exports could fall to nearly 2.5 million tons in August following increased drone strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on shipping vessels, according to a forecast by analysis firm ProZerno reported by Interfax.
The expected total is 2.3 times lower than the average August export volume of 5.7 million tons recorded between 2021 and 2025. Analysts stated that shipping disruptions in the Azov-Black Sea basin were a primary cause of the sharp decline, noting that summer drone attacks had complicated cargo deliveries and that rerouting exports would take time.
Rail logistics support
To assist agricultural exporters facing maritime transport difficulties, the Russian government planned to allocate 10 billion rubles from the budget to subsidize railway transport for key agricultural crops.
Albina Koryagina, a partner at the company Neo, said shifting grain shipments from the Azov-Black Sea basin to the Baltic region would increase export expenses due to higher railway costs. She stated that domestic farmers would need additional state support under these conditions.
