Russian President Vladimir Putin said public transport rides must be safe and affordable for citizens, according to RIA Novosti.
Putin said trolleybuses, trams, buses and suburban trains need to run on schedule, with trips that are safe and affordable in price. He stressed that this should apply not only to large cities but also to small towns, rural areas and key settlements.

Reliability for commuters
Putin said public transport helps citizens reach their destinations quickly and comfortably, and that people should be confident that problems in its operation will not disrupt their plans.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin had earlier said that the modernization of the Moscow metro is spurring the development of businesses in Russia's regions.
