A 41-year-old man suspected of being a paedophile has killed himself as New South Wales Police officers raided his home in the Blue Mountains.
Detectives from the Sex Crimes Squad were investigating the man over the alleged possession of child abuse material when they arrived at his address on Grose Street in Leura just after 7am to execute a search warrant, police said.
Officers located the man inside a bedroom with a knife. "As officers entered the room, the man stabbed himself," NSW Police said in a statement to media.
"Police immediately rendered first aid and sought assistance from NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, the man died at the scene."
A critical incident team from Mt Druitt Police Area Command will lead an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
