New South Wales Police revealed that a suitcase found in rural bushland near Goulburn did not contain human remains, but a lifelike sex doll. Two men on a scenic weekend drive discovered the suitcase along Wolgon Road in Oallen, about 60 kilometres south of Goulburn, at 12.50pm on Sunday.
The discovery initially sparked fears that the bag contained decomposed human remains, believed to be those of a woman. Officers established a crime scene and seized the suitcase for forensic examination, while detectives formed a strike force assisted by the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad.
Investigators spent much of Sunday night at the scene before police revealed the contents at a press conference on Monday morning. Police sources told the Daily Telegraph that the item was a lifelike sex doll.
"We are still undertaking more forensic work to identify what they are. But we can identify that they're not human," NSW Police Superintendent Linda Bradbury said.
"When we were called to Oallen yesterday, the members of the public did initially think that they'd come across human remains," Superintendent Bradbury said. "They are very realistic in the terms of looking like human remains, but we've confirmed by other means that they are not."
Police forensic investigation
"We had our forensics team turn up and police officers look at the remains as well. Of course, we don't like to disturb them too much in that situation," Superintendent Bradbury said.
"The idea is to maintain their integrity. We've been able to collect the remains and take them for forensic investigation to determine that they are not human," she added.
Superintendent Bradbury commended officers for following procedures to protect the scene. "NSW Police have undertaken the processes that we do to maintain the integrity of a crime scene to a T and I do commend our officers for that," she said.
"We don't necessarily like to disturb any crime scenes because that's our links to make sure that offenders are brought before the court. So we followed our processes to a T to a high level, and I think that it is no regrets at all. I couldn't be actually more proud of my team."
