Chargé d’Affaires of Ukraine in Georgia Andriy Kasyanov was summoned to the Foreign Ministry due to statements related to Georgian-Russian relations and an alleged threat to Ukrainians in Georgia, the Imedi TV channel reports with reference to the Foreign Ministry.

As stated in the statement of the department, the Foreign Ministry wants to get an explanation from Kasyanov regarding his recent statements about the possible evacuation of Ukrainian citizens from Georgia.

On January 24, Kasyanov told the Ukrainian publication Evropeyskaya Pravda that if direct flights between Russia and Georgia are restored and “real risks increase,” the embassy admits the possibility of organizing a mass evacuation of Ukrainian citizens from Georgian territory. According to him, the embassy in Georgia can facilitate the return of Ukrainian citizens to the country “against the background of a significant increase in the threat to the safe stay of Ukrainians in Georgia, caused by an abnormal influx of Russians.”

Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party, said in this regard that the possible resumption of air traffic is not connected with the influx of Russians to Georgia. “There were no risks for the security of our country, including for the security of the Ukrainians living here,” he said.
