Final Fantasy VII Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi says the finale could be totally different from what fans expect.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation Ending Teased by Director

Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, said the closing chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy could end in a way that no player expects.

In an interview with Automaton, Hamaguchi was asked about how Revelation, the final entry in the trilogy that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, would close. He gave no details about the plot or the ending itself, but suggested the finale could take players by surprise.

Hamaguchi said he had never told any media outlet what kind of ending Revelation would have. He said he was glad the Remake series had been made, and that the ending could be entirely faithful to the original game, could turn out to be something completely different, or could take a direction no one could have imagined. He said he wanted every player to experience it for themselves.

Physical edition still undecided

Hamaguchi also addressed a possible physical release of the game. He confirmed that the exact versions to be made available for the new remake are still being discussed, so Square Enix cannot yet give a definitive answer. He said he is working to secure a physical edition of the game.

The comments come after Sony announced that, starting in January 2028, PlayStation will stop supporting physical games on PS5 and its future consoles, a decision that drew a negative reaction from the gaming community. It remains to be seen whether Final Fantasy VII Revelation will still give players the option of a physical copy.
