The Plenary of the Junta Central Electoral announced on Monday a 30-day extension for political organizations to submit updated membership lists in Santo Domingo.
According to a letter from the General Secretariat of the electoral body, the new deadline will be Sept. 2 at 4:00 p.m. The original deadline to complete the registration process was set to expire on Aug. 3.
Electoral officials explained that they decided to extend the timeframe after accepting a request from the Permanent Forum of Political Parties of the Dominican Republic, known as Fopppredom. During this period, political parties, groupings, and movements must update their requested documents and deliver them to the General Secretariat, as outlined in Article 4 of the regulation establishing the process for registering affiliations and disaffiliations.
Party Membership Rules
In February, the board approved the regulation to address complaints regarding unauthorized affiliations and duplicate voter registrations across political party rolls. Enacted in compliance with Law 33-18, the measure requires political organizations to present their official membership lists.
Under Article 4, the rolls will be audited by the Information Technology and Political Parties directorates of the Junta Central Electoral. Only citizens registered in a single political organization will be recognized as valid. Voters listed under multiple parties will be assigned an inactive status by the board.
Citizens seeking to appeal an inactive status must present their credentials to the board, provide biometric data, and submit physical evidence supporting their affiliation. The regulation also specifies that when registering a member identity card, any system notification showing prior enrollment on another party roll will automatically mark that individual as inactive.
