Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, actor Robert De Niro, and film producer Meir Teper have opened Nobu Hotel Madrid on Calle Alcala. Located between Plaza de Cibeles and Puerta del Sol, the property marks the hospitality brand's fifth hotel in Spain, joining existing locations in San Sebastian, Barcelona, Marbella, and Ibiza.
Designed as an urban retreat within the Barrio de las Letras district, the property combines luxury accommodations with four distinct food and beverage concepts. Hotel management confirmed that the venue is intended to serve as a dining and leisure destination for local Madrid residents as well as overnight guests.

Design and Dining Concepts
International design firm Studio Gronda created the concepts for the four public dining and lounge areas. Designer Tomas Alia, representing Studio Caramba, designed the guest rooms and wellness spaces.
On the ground access floor, the Lobby Lounge provides a flexible space offering specialty coffee during the day and pre-dinner cocktails in the afternoon. Below, a lower-level cocktail bar pairs premium spirits and curated small bites with vinyl music selection.
At the top of the building, a rooftop venue features panoramic views across the city skyline. The space includes lounge areas and an afternoon cocktail bar tailored for watching sunsets and summer nights.
Flagship Nobu Restaurant
The flagship Nobu Restaurant occupies a three-level space on the upper floor, built around an open kitchen. It serves Nobu Matsuhisa's signature Nikkei cuisine, drawing on flavors developed during his career in Tokyo and his travels across the globe.
The menu incorporates internationally known signature dishes including black cod miso, yellowtail jalapeño, and rock shrimp tempura, alongside an extensive selection of sushi, sashimi, and nigiri. The kitchen team has also created exclusive dishes developed specifically for the Madrid location.
Within the restaurant space, an eight-seat sushi bar allows diners to watch the sushiman prepare individual pieces directly before them. The service emphasizes precision, rhythm, and traditional technique as a central culinary ceremony.
The beverage menu features a curated selection of Spanish and international wines, sakes, and signature cocktails.
Guest Rooms and Luxury Suites
The hotel houses 50 guest rooms and suites across four layout categories named Zen, Hika, Yuhi, and Nobu.
Positioned on the top floor, the flagship Nobu Suite spans 105 square meters and includes its own private outdoor terrace.
Founders and Culinary History
Master chef Nobu Matsuhisa operates more than 60 restaurants worldwide. He opened his first restaurant in New York in 1994, which captivated Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro and led to their business partnership with film producer Meir Teper.
Matsuhisa previously cooked in Spain alongside Marbella chef Dani Garcia in four-hands culinary sessions, and recently participated in the second Culinary Icons charity event held at the Puente Romano resort in Marbella.
In broader regional gastronomy news, Madrid will also host major culinary showcases during upcoming sporting events. Chef Hugo Munoz of the Ugo Chan restaurant is among the culinary team selected to cater for attendees at the Formula 1 Tag Heuer Spanish Grand Prix 2026, scheduled from September 11 to 13 in the capital.
