Peruvian television host Magaly Medina has publicly rejected a meeting with her longtime media rival Gisela Valcárcel, calling her two-faced during a live broadcast.
Speaking on her entertainment show Magaly TV, la firme, Medina stated that any encounter between the two prominent Peruvian broadcast personalities remains impossible due to conflicting demands over where the meeting should take place.
The dispute resurfaced after model Israel Dreyfus appeared as a guest on Medina's program alongside television figures Alfredo Benavides and Leysi Suárez. Dreyfus presented Medina with a trophy he recently won on the program Sin +Q Decir, a show that featured an interview with Valcárcel.
Dreyfus placed the award on Medina's desk, telling her that it was sent with affection from her friend, host María Pía Copello, and Valcárcel, and suggesting that Medina display it on set throughout the week.
Medina immediately rejected the gesture, remarking that while Copello was her friend, Copello had interviewed someone who was not her friend at all. When Dreyfus noted that Valcárcel had expressed a willingness during her podcast appearance to meet with Medina, the host questioned Valcárcel's sincerity and dismissed the idea entirely.
Dispute over meeting location
Medina explained that she and Valcárcel have spent years locked in an irreconcilable disagreement regarding who should serve as host for any joint appearance. She accused Valcárcel of being two-faced by claiming she would appear on Medina's podcast, only to insist that Medina must visit Valcárcel's home and streaming platform first.
Medina said that both women have maintained identical stances for years, with each insisting on holding the meeting on her own broadcast. Because neither presenter is willing to yield, Medina declared that a joint appearance will not be possible.
Valcárcel, affectionately known in Peru as La Señito, is a veteran television host and producer who has dominated Peruvian daytime and primetime entertainment for decades. Medina has spearheaded investigative celebrity news and gossip programming on the ATV network, leading to a fierce professional rivalry between the two media figures.
Past rejection of charity event
During the broadcast, Medina revealed that TV producer Ney Guerrero previously attempted to arrange a public meeting between the two hosts to benefit the Teletón, an annual televised charity drive that raises funds for children's medical care in Peru.
Medina stated that although Guerrero had to persuade her to participate, she ultimately agreed to the broadcast for a charitable cause. However, according to Medina, Valcárcel, who is the mother of television presenter Ethel Pozo, turned down the initiative, claiming through representatives that it was not the right time.
Medina added that while she would still consider meeting Valcárcel for a social cause in the future, she would not do so for the Teletón, telling her rival to participate on her own if she insists on setting conditions.
Criticism of podcast demeanor
The discussion grew increasingly heated as Medina's guests poked fun at her visible irritation. Medina admitted her annoyance at Valcárcel's attitude, criticizing her for acting naive during her recent interview on Sin +Q Decir.
Medina specifically referenced comments made on the podcast by former reality television star Mario Hart, who admitted on air that he had appeared on the set while tipsy. Medina expressed anger toward people she viewed as hypocritical, accusing Valcárcel of feigning ignorance about drinking on set and pretending not to know that a bar was present.
