Former Peruvian footballer Jefferson Farfán has launched a sharp online attack against television presenter Magaly Medina after singer Yahaira Plasencia dropped her defamation lawsuit in Peru.
Medina revealed that she reached a formal conciliation agreement with Plasencia to end their legal dispute, with the salsa artist agreeing to withdraw her complaint without seeking financial compensation.
The resolution between Plasencia and the television host stands in sharp contrast to Farfán's ongoing court battle against Medina. The former international forward previously secured a favorable judicial ruling against the journalist, which ordered civil damages to be paid in his favor.
Social media message and witch image
Following the public announcement of the settlement, Farfán shared a provocative post on social media that followers quickly interpreted as a direct criticism of Medina, the host of the entertainment show Magaly TV: La Firme.
In his online message, Farfán questioned Medina's recent remarks regarding the boundary between personal life and professional duties. He wrote that he who laughs last laughs best and noted that he was in no hurry, before asking people mockingly to respect the privacy of someone who had supposedly never meddled in anyone else's personal life, calling her the ridiculous person of the year.
Farfán accompanied the written statement with an image of a witch, a detail that further heightened public speculation that his comments were aimed directly at the television personality.
Public apology and legal resolution
Medina addressed the conciliation on her television show, explaining that Plasencia chose to drop the defamation case because of a difficult personal and family situation. Medina offered a public apology to the singer for insulting terms she had used against her on air in the past and expressed respect for Plasencia's decision to end the dispute.
Medina stated on air that the agreement represented a closed chapter and claimed that she had learned over time to separate her personal affairs from her professional work as a reporter. Both parties presented the decision as a mutual effort to avoid further prolonged litigation in the courts.
Plasencia had originally launched legal proceedings for defamation after Medina directed descriptive insults at her during broadcasts of her evening gossip show. The singer's decision to drop all claims and waive financial damages effectively ended all legal actions between the two women.
