Labor inspectors from the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion and the National Superintendent of Labor Inspection halted an inspection of musical group La Bella Luz after legal representative Óscar Custodio suffered a health emergency. Custodio was urgently transferred to a clinic, preventing authorities from completing their review.
The government inspection began on Saturday, August 8 at a property in San Juan de Lurigancho that was named in a complaint filed by Naldy Saldaña. Inspectors verified during their visit that the building was being used as a rehearsal room for the band.
Inspectors then moved to the fiscal address of Empresa Musical Internacional La Bella Luz in Comas to collect company contact details. The process came to a sudden stop when Custodio fell ill and required emergency medical transport. Authorities scheduled the inspection to resume on Monday, August 10 at noon to carry out remaining tasks.
Harassment allegations and concert videos
The labor audit was triggered by Saldaña, who accused La Bella Luz director César Chávez of improper touching. Saldaña shared text chats with fellow band members that she said proved they were aware of the harassment she experienced. Television host Magaly Medina also broadcast video footage showing group singers allegedly mocking Saldaña during a live concert performance.
Irregular workplace conditions reported
The inspection brought wider attention to working conditions within the group. Former member Kevin Céspedes told Show Pe that band members worked without formal contracts and were not given payment receipts with a tax identification number. He stated that payments were made on a weekly basis through cash or bank transfers.
Céspedes said that when he decided to leave the orchestra, he informed Custodio that he had no contract and was free to depart without notice. Custodio responded that he had never offered him a contract. Céspedes added that musicians traveled without life insurance or safety guarantees, leaving them exposed to any risks on the road.
