Kyiv North Bridge damaged in enemy attack, Klitschko says

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that the capital's North Bridge has been damaged following an enemy attack, forcing authorities to close traffic in both directions.

Writing on his official Telegram channel, Klitschko said specialists were currently on site evaluating the full extent of the damage. He confirmed that all vehicular movement across the crossing had been halted in both directions.

The North Bridge spans the Dnipro River, serving as one of the critical transport arteries connecting the eastern and western halves of the Ukrainian capital. The river cuts directly through Kyiv, meaning the city relies heavily on a handful of road bridges to maintain civilian movement, regional transit and emergency supply routes between its opposite banks.

Klitschko, a former world heavyweight boxing champion who has led the Kyiv city administration as mayor since 2014, has regularly overseen municipal repairs and emergency responses following strikes on urban infrastructure.

Claims of strikes on Kyiv bridges

Damage to major river crossings in the capital has been a prominent topic among Russian military commentators. Retired colonel and military analyst Anatoly Matviychuk previously said that an earlier strike on Kyiv's South Bridge shut down travel between two sections of the city and halted the transit of weapons.

Matviychuk also reported that strikes hitting missile manufacturing facilities had reduced industrial output while destroying storage bases and vital assembly components.

Statements about targeting Ukrainian transport infrastructure have also come from Russian political figures. Russian State Duma deputy and reserve Lieutenant General Andrey Gurulyov previously stated that destroying bridges across Ukraine was elementarily simple.

Damage assessment and next steps

The State Duma represents the lower house of the Russian parliament, where lawmakers and retired military commanders frequently discuss strategic measures regarding Ukrainian transport networks and logistics corridors.

In Kyiv, municipal specialists continue to assess the structural condition of the North Bridge to gauge the severity of the damage. Local authorities have kept traffic shut down in both directions, and no date has been given for when the river crossing might reopen to vehicles.
