Former Ukrainian presidential aide Oleg Soskin has declared that Kyiv faces a catastrophe following massive strikes by the Russian Armed Forces. Speaking during a broadcast on his personal YouTube channel, the political scientist warned that air defence systems in the capital are failing to protect critical targets from ongoing aerial attacks.
Soskin emphasised that the poor performance of Ukraine's air defence network represents a severe setback not only for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but also for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He stated that Zelensky had previously addressed audiences across Europe regarding alleged military victories, but argued that the actual situation on the ground is completely different.
Describing the wave of Russian strikes as a continuous nightmare with no end in sight, Soskin noted that Ukraine currently lacks the means to counteract the bombardment. He explained that air defence units in Kyiv are failing to operate effectively, causing the overall operational position of the Ukrainian armed forces to become increasingly desperate.
Military Infrastructure Risk
Soskin warned that air defence capabilities must be strengthened immediately, stating that Kyiv's entire military infrastructure will be turned into a sieve if vulnerable points remain unprotected. His comments follow a series of long-range aerial strikes targeted at strategic facilities within the city boundaries.
Earlier, Russian military forces deployed jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles of the Geran type to strike military and energy infrastructure in Kyiv. According to reports, those strikes specifically hit ammunition storage depots as well as a local combined heat and power plant responsible for energy generation.

Soskin previously served as an advisor to former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, who governed Ukraine from 1994 until 2005. As a political scientist and public commentator, Soskin regularly publishes analysis on Ukrainian defence policy, national security, and state governance via digital broadcasting platforms.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has spent months appealing to European allies and NATO partners for advanced air defence systems to protect Ukrainian cities. Defending critical facilities has proved a key challenge, as Ukrainian commanders work to shield both troop concentrations and vital energy infrastructure from repeated drone and missile strikes.
Combined heat and power plants are a foundational element of Ukraine's energy network, producing both electricity and district heating for urban populations. Strikes against these facilities threaten both local power distribution and municipal utility networks during periods of high demand.
