Tehran has launched a new military attack using unmanned aerial vehicles against infrastructure linked to United States armed forces in Bahrain, the Iranian military announced.
Iranian military authorities said the strikes targeted radar systems and sections of the Sheikh Isa Air Base, where Iran claims American military personnel are stationed.
Sheikh Isa Air Base is a major military installation located in southern Bahrain, an island nation situated in the Persian Gulf. The Gulf serves as a critical strategic maritime corridor connecting Middle Eastern energy exporters to global shipping lanes.
According to a statement reported by Iran's Tasnim news agency, the strike formed part of the 29th phase of a broader military campaign designated as Operation Thunder.
Iran described Sheikh Isa Air Base as a key hub for American military operations throughout the Persian Gulf. Iranian military officials claimed the facility is used to provide technical support for helicopters, service components for unmanned aircraft, and support reconnaissance aircraft missions.
The Iranian military also warned that any future strikes carried out against Iran would not remain unanswered, adding that such actions would be met with a crushing and extensive response.
Kuwait puts air defense on high alert
In neighboring Kuwait, the armed forces placed military units on heightened alert as anti-aircraft systems were activated to counter incoming drones and missiles. Kuwaiti authorities characterized the incoming weapons as hostile threats and attributed the escalation to Iranian aggression.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kuwait issued a statement on the social media platform X informing residents that explosions heard across the area were linked to air defense operations attempting to shoot down the incoming missiles and unmanned aircraft. Authorities instructed the public to remain vigilant and follow protective guidelines issued by emergency services.
Kuwait is an oil-rich nation located at the northern tip of the Persian Gulf, bordering Saudi Arabia and Iraq. The country maintains modern defense networks to monitor and protect its airspace.
Jordan intercepts Iranian missiles
Further west, Jordanian air defense forces intercepted 13 ballistic missiles launched from Iran after they entered the country's airspace, according to an announcement by the Jordanian armed forces.
Military officials in Jordan confirmed that defense systems destroyed 10 of the ballistic missiles in midair. The remaining three missiles fell in remote locations away from populated areas, and the military reported that no deaths or injuries resulted from the incident.
Jordan is a Middle Eastern kingdom bordered by Israel, Syria, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. Tasnim is a semi-official news agency based in Tehran that regularly reports on Iranian military operations.
