Google has introduced the Pixel Tag, a compact location tracker designed to help users locate lost keys, backpacks, suitcases and other personal items.
The new accessory operates through Google's Find Hub network, establishing the technology company as a direct competitor to Apple's AirTag and Samsung's Galaxy SmartTag in the personal asset tracking market.
Individual Pixel Tag units are priced at $29, while a four-pack bundle will retail for $99. Sales for the device are scheduled to begin on November 11.
Hardware specifications and tracking features
The Pixel Tag supports both Bluetooth wireless connectivity and ultra-wideband technology. Ultra-wideband is a short-range radio protocol that offers precise location determination at close distance, enabling users to pinpoint the exact direction and distance of a misplaced item.
Constructed with a durable stainless steel housing, the tracker carries an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. Under standard IP67 classification, a device is fully sealed against solid dust particles and protected against water submersion up to one meter deep for 30 minutes.
The tracker is also equipped with an internal speaker designed to play an audio signal, allowing owners to locate nearby items quickly by sound.
A single replaceable battery powers the Pixel Tag for approximately one year of normal use. Owners can swap out the battery independently when it depletes.
Device setup uses Google's Fast Pair system, which automatically detects nearby accessories on smartphones running Android 9 or newer. The setup process requires users only to bring the Pixel Tag close to their mobile device to complete pairing.
Sharing capabilities and privacy safeguards
Google has integrated multi-user support into the Pixel Tag software, enabling a single tracker to be shared among up to 10 different users. This feature allows family members or colleagues to monitor shared items such as house keys or luggage.
The device features automatic separation alerts that inform owners when they leave a tagged item behind.
To protect users against unwanted tracking and stalking, Google has incorporated safety mechanisms into the system. If an unrecognized Pixel Tag remains in close proximity to an individual for an extended period, the Android operating system will send a safety notification to alert the user.
Google ecosystem and industry competition
The introduction of the Pixel Tag adds another component to Google's broader hardware lineup. Google recently expanded its mobile lineup with the release of the Pixel 11 smartphone, which features 256 GB of storage capacity in its base configuration.
Google has also launched three new flagship Pixel smartphones powered by the custom Tensor G6 processor and equipped with Gemini artificial intelligence software features.
The new tracker enters a market with established rivals. Apple released its second-generation AirTag in January 2026, updating its tracking tag with an improved speaker system and expanded operational range.
