The Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) put two one-sol coins into circulation as of this Wednesday, December 21, in honor of José Baquíjano y Carrillo de Córdoba and José Faustino Sánchez Carrión.
These copies correspond to the fifth and sixth coin of the numismatic series “Builders of the Bicentennial Republic 1821-2021” as part of the commemoration for the 200 years of independence.
According to the BCRP, the series —consisting of nine coins— aims to disseminate the image and history of characters who had a relevant participation in the independence cause, as well as promote numismatic culture.
It is worth noting that these are legal tender, so they can be used in any economic transaction and will circulate simultaneously with the current ones.
Finally, the BCRP pointed out that as of today, cases with the coins will be put on sale, which can be purchased through its online sales portal. In total, 10 million units will be issued for each historical figure.
