The attack occurred during the night of August 24 when the man entered the victim's home. According to investigators from the regional department of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the intruder made his way into the bedroom where the woman was sleeping, launched an assault, and demanded that she hand over her money and valuables.

The victim offered active resistance to her attacker, law enforcement officials said. During the struggle, she managed to break free from his grip and ran out of the house. Before escaping, she stabbed the perpetrator in the forearm with a knife and locked the front door behind her, trapping him inside.

Investigation and criminal charges

The Dagestan department of the Investigative Committee confirmed to news outlet Lenta.ru that proceedings against the suspect have been opened under Articles 30, 105, and 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The statutes cover attempted murder and armed robbery.

Russian law enforcement authorities are currently deciding on the formal pre-trial restriction measure to be imposed on the suspect as the investigation continues.

Regional law enforcement

The Republic of Dagestan is a federal subject of Russia located in the North Caucasus region along the Caspian Sea coast. Serious criminal offenses involving violence and robbery in the region are investigated by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the country's central federal investigative agency.

Under Russian legal procedure, a court determines pre-trial restriction measures to specify whether a criminal suspect will be remanded in custody or placed under other restrictions pending trial.
