A 78-year-old driver died after his car veered off Landstraße 3378 near Fulda and struck a tree head-on on Sunday afternoon. Police said they believe a medical emergency caused the crash, which occurred around 3:40 p.m. as the man was traveling toward Hünfeld-Michelsrombach. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

A motorist driving behind the victim had already noticed the 78-year-old earlier due to his unsafe driving style, police reported. Immediately after the impact, the vehicle caught fire, but first responders managed to pull the driver out of the burning wreckage shortly before the car and two adjacent trees became fully engulfed in flames.
Hospital death and road closure
Emergency crews resuscitated the victim at the crash site and transported him to a hospital in Fulda, where he died a short time later. Authorities fully closed Landstraße 3378 for approximately three hours to carry out rescue, firefighting, and recovery operations.
