Russian comedian Yulia Akhmedova has revealed that she has drawn up a will to determine the distribution of her assets and real estate.
The stand-up performer shared the details of her estate planning during an interview with journalist Laura Dzhugelia on the online platform VK Video. Akhmedova explained that her decision was driven by a pessimistic outlook on life and a desire to ensure her affairs are organized in advance.
She stated that she wanted a clear legal document specifying what property goes to whom if something were to happen to her. Describing the process as a super-practical step, she confirmed that the original document is stored with a notary, while a copy is kept at her home.
Akhmedova is a prominent Russian stand-up comedian, writer and television producer, widely known for her leading role in expanding female stand-up comedy in Russia. VK Video, where the interview was released, is a major Russian digital video-sharing network.
Protection for family members and pet
Outlining her motivations, Akhmedova emphasized her intention to independently determine the fate of her property and legally secure the rights of her closest relatives to all her assets.
She noted that if she were to pass away, she wanted her mother, father, sister and cat to remain protected for the rest of their lives. Akhmedova highlighted that having an official will prevents distant relatives from making legal claims on her inheritance.
Growing trend among Russian media personalities
Akhmedova is not the only high-profile figure in Russian media to discuss estate planning publicly in recent times. Blogger and media personality Ida Galich previously revealed that she had also drawn up a will, specifying that she completed the legal paperwork before the birth of her second child.
Galich is a popular Russian online creator and television host known for sharing updates about her family life with millions of followers. In Russian law, executing a will before a state notary is the formal procedure required to ensure property is inherited according to an individual's explicit wishes.
