Police in Yekaterinburg have exposed an underground labyrinth brothel located in one of the city's most expensive districts, known as the millionaires' quarter, REN TV reported.
Local residents had spent months complaining about indecent sounds coming from behind a reinforced iron door, but official authorities repeatedly told them that no violations were taking place. The residents eventually turned to local activists for assistance.
When workers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations used a crowbar to break open the door, the premises were empty. Female workers had already escaped using a hidden back exit.
Officers detained only one person inside, a foreign woman who identified herself as a student working as a cleaner.
Brothel Operation and Penalties
Inside the building, investigators found dozens of rooms, adult accessories, videos, and additional rooms that were being prepared for opening. The establishment operated a website offering a wide selection of women, charging between 2,000 and 40,000 rubles for services.
Activists had repeatedly submitted links to the venue's website to police and the communications regulator Roskomnadzor, but neither agency acted. The organizers of the brothel now face up to five years in a penal colony, while the detained foreign national faces a fine and deportation.
The operation follows a separate case in Volgograd, where authorities recently uncovered a gang involved in luring teenagers into prostitution.
