Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G in Japan, introducing its first smartphone equipped with a 10,000 mAh battery.
The device is the first Pro Max variant in the Redmi Note series. According to the manufacturer, the phone's silicon-carbon battery provides up to three days of active operation on a single charge.
Xiaomi said its 100W fast charging delivers a full day of power in about 20 minutes. The company claimed the battery retains over 80 percent of its original capacity after 1,600 charge cycles, and can supply up to 27W of reverse wired power to charge external devices.
Battery technology and body protection
Silicon-carbon anode technology allows smartphone makers to pack significantly higher energy density into compact enclosures compared to conventional lithium-ion cells. Xiaomi has housed the massive battery within a chassis rated for IP66 and IP68 dust and water resistance standards.
The IP68 rating indicates protection against continuous immersion in water, while IP66 certifies resistance against high-pressure water jets. The front of the phone is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, a toughened glass engineered to withstand drops onto hard surfaces.
Display and internal specifications
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G features a 6.83-inch screen with a 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. High peak brightness levels help keep mobile screens legible under direct sunlight, while higher refresh rates produce smoother scrolling and animations.
Under the hood, the handset runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 processor and offers up to 16GB of system RAM, including memory expansion. The processor is designed for mid-range 5G smartphones to manage power efficiency alongside daily workloads.
For photography, the device includes a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization, alongside a 32-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. The smartphone operates on Xiaomi's HyperOS 3 software system.
Pricing, availability, and line extensions
In Japan, the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration is priced at 79,980 yen, which equals roughly 502 dollars. The higher-tier variant with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage costs 99,980 yen, or approximately 628 dollars.
The launch follows other recent smartphone releases by Xiaomi. The company recently released the standard Redmi 17 and Redmi 17 5G, both of which feature a 7,500 mAh battery. Xiaomi also previewed the Xiaomi 18 Fold, a foldable device built with a wide body design.
