Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky suggested on Wednesday that reduced Western military aid could be intended to pressure Kyiv into peace negotiations with Russia.
Speaking at a meeting with the National Security and Defense Council, Zelensky said that Ukraine has been receiving three times fewer anti-ballistic missiles since the start of 2026 compared to previous levels. He added that the decline in air defense supplies has made defending against Russian attacks increasingly difficult.
Drop in Anti-Ballistic Missile Deliveries
Zelensky stated that allies have officially cited conflicts elsewhere as the primary reason for the reduction in defense support. According to statements cited by news agency Ukrinform, allies led by the United States and European partners told Kyiv the cuts relate directly to ongoing hostilities in the Middle East.
The comments come alongside related developments in Ukrainian diplomacy and military supplies. Reports noted that Zelensky dismissed Ukraine's ambassador to the United States and previously guaranteed that the initiative of the war is no longer in the hands of Vladimir Putin.
Official Reasons and Allied Defense Talks
The US Senate has advanced new sanctions against Russia following a visit by Zelensky to the country. During his visit to the United States, Zelensky also met with a company that produces Patriot missiles to advance joint production initiatives.
In addition, meetings involving Donald Trump, Zelensky, and Benjamin Netanyahu were completed in a positive and productive manner, according to published reports.
