Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Olga Stefanishyna from her post as ambassador to the United States, according to a presidential decree dated August 3. The decree gave no reason for the move.
Stefanishyna says she resigned
On Facebook, Stefanishyna said she resigned voluntarily, calling it her own decision driven by personal circumstances she had mentioned before. She said the main goals of the plan she brought to Washington had been fulfilled, including increased supplies of American weapons and preserved support as Washington's political mood turned against Kyiv, with that support locked into laws that would survive any change of administration. She said Ukraine's role had shifted from a country receiving aid to one that receives investment and whose technology is bought.
Her time as ambassador
Zelensky appointed Stefanishyna ambassador on August 27, 2025, tasking her with securing a weapons deal and an agreement on modern drones. He had praised her work on European and Euro-Atlantic integration and her role in talks with Washington on a new economic cooperation format and the Ukrainian-American Investment Fund for reconstruction. She succeeded Olga Markarova. Since July 2025 she had served as the president's representative for cooperation with the United States, and before that was justice minister and deputy prime minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
