A makeup trick for brightening the under-eye area is spreading on TikTok and Instagram after Norwegian beauty content creator Emilie Tømmerberg shared it in a video posted on June 15.
Tømmerberg said mixing concealer with a highlighter gives a luminous finish under the eyes. In the video, she blends a touch of her concealer with a few drops of liquid highlighter, then buffs the mixture under her eyes using a wide, flat brush designed for the eye contour. The technique has been viewed thousands of times.
Irish professional makeup artist Makeup by Asta has adopted a version of the trick, applying a drop of each product in alternating dabs under the eyes before blending them together.
Why the trick suits summer
The method does not replace concealer but changes its finish. Liquid highlighter adds transparency and light to formulas that can otherwise look heavy or matte, producing a less flat result that reflects more light and helps visually soften dark circles and fine lines. A discreet highlighter without large shimmer particles or glitter works best for a natural effect, and the lighter texture suits hot weather, when matte finishes can feel heavier on the skin.
American beauty blog Into the Gloss writer Emily Ferber said she adopted the method to transform her favorite matte concealer, mixing in a small amount of cream highlighter for a result that was brighter and easier to blend under the eyes and around the nose while still keeping good coverage. She said it gives her a relaxed, lightweight, "too hot to wear makeup" look while knowing she is, in fact, wearing concealer.
