Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has ordered a special working group sent to Russia after eight Uzbek citizens died in a Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian city of Nizhnekamsk, the press service of Uzbekistan's Emergency Situations Ministry said.
The group will include representatives of the Emergency Situations Ministry, the Health Ministry, the Foreign Ministry, the Migration Service and other agencies, according to the ministry's statement. Mirziyoyev also ordered the creation of a government commission to gather information on the condition of the injured, help them, and organize the transport of the bodies of the dead back to Uzbekistan.
Representatives of Uzbekistan's Migration Service and its Consulate General in the Russian city of Kazan are already working at the scene alongside Russian counterparts, the ministry said.
Zakharova's comments
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, commenting on the attack, said all members of the international community should condemn what she called the barbaric crimes of Ukrainian neo-Nazis. She said Kyiv's neo-Nazis had deliberately struck places where citizens of friendly nations lived and worked in an attempt to drive a wedge into the fraternal relations between the peoples of Russia and those countries.
Zakharova added that attacks by Ukraine's armed forces harm not only ordinary Russians but citizens of other countries as well. She offered condolences to the relatives of the dead and wished a swift recovery to those injured.
What happened in Nizhnekamsk
Ukrainian drones struck Russia's Tatarstan region early on August 10, 2026, hitting industrial and civilian sites in Nizhnekamsk. Tatarstan's head, Rustam Minnikhanov, held an emergency meeting and ordered that all necessary medical care be provided to the injured. Mourning was declared for those killed.
Thirteen people died in the strike, including a five-year-old girl who died before medics could reach her. Preliminary information indicates eight Uzbek citizens and one Tajik citizen were among the dead, while about 20 foreign nationals were injured.
